The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has promptly deployed emergency search and rescue teams in response to a severe rainstorm that hit Accra on Sunday, May 18.
Chief Disaster Control Officer, Mohammed Jafaro, confirmed the activation of multiple response teams addressing flood-related emergencies across various affected areas. “We have activated our emergency search and rescue teams. As I am speaking to you now, we have a team in Ashiyie, in the Adenta Municipality,” he stated during an interview on Channel One Newsroom.
Jafaro detailed the organization’s coordinated response, highlighting that the regional director is leading rescue operations in the Fulani area of Adenta, while another team from NADMO’s headquarters is active in Nana Kurom. A separate team has also been dispatched to Tema to support impacted communities.
He further noted that senior leadership, including the Deputy Director General for Operations and the Deputy Director General for Technical Matters, are on the ground overseeing the response efforts.
“The Director General himself is actively monitoring the situation from the headquarters,” Jafaro added.
With key personnel deployed strategically across the capital, NADMO is working diligently to minimize the storm’s impact and provide timely support to affected residents. The organization remains vigilant and continues to monitor the evolving situation as rescue operations advance.
