Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, has initiated legal action against Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, seeking GH¢30 million in damages for alleged defamation.
The lawsuit stems from a post made by Rev. Fordjour on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on May 8, 2025. In the post, Rev. Fordjour alleged that Mr. Dafeamekpor was implicated in a controversial GH¢360,000 payment reportedly made by Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former head of the National Signals Bureau.
According to the claims, the payment was directed to two parliamentary committees involved in the deliberation of the National Signals Bureau Act and its accompanying Legislative Instrument. Mr. Dafeamekpor, who was serving as Vice Chairman of one of the committees, has strongly refuted the allegations, emphasizing that he had no involvement in any such transaction.
In his statement to the court, Mr. Dafeamekpor argued that the publication of the accusations has caused significant harm to his personal and professional reputation. "This post has caused economic harm, disrupted my work, and affected me personally," he stated.
He is demanding not only monetary compensation but also a full retraction, a public apology from Rev. Fordjour, and a court injunction preventing any further defamatory statements.
The suit claims the post was a deliberate attempt to portray Mr. Dafeamekpor as corrupt and to mislead the public. It further asserts that the accusations were baseless and malicious.
As the case proceeds, both parties remain steadfast in their positions. The court is expected to determine whether Rev. Fordjour’s remarks constitute defamation under Ghanaian law.
