Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, represented President John Dramani Mahama at the inauguration Mass of Pope Leo XIV, held at Saint Peter’s Square in Vatican City on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
In a Facebook post following the event, Ablakwa expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to attend what he described as a momentous and historic occasion. He called it a "profound honour" to represent both the President and the people of Ghana at such a globally significant event.
Ablakwa also extended heartfelt thanks for the blessings and warmth shown by the Supreme Pontiff during the ceremony.
The inauguration Mass officially marked the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s papacy and drew dignitaries and leaders from across the globe, underscoring the event's international importance.
