The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of Professor Amedeker Mawuadem Koku, a senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). The professor's body was discovered buried in a shallow grave within the premises of his own home after an extensive investigation.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 22, 2025. Police reports indicate that Arthur was found with several of the deceased professor’s belongings, including two Samsung smartphones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and the key to a Toyota Fortuner SUV owned by Professor Amedeker.
Initial investigations led police to follow a trail of blood from inside the house to a concealed area on the compound, where the shallow grave was located. The professor’s body, which had been reported missing earlier, was subsequently recovered.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing as they seek to fully understand the circumstances leading to the lecturer’s death.
