Seventeen individuals, including seven Chinese nationals and ten Ghanaians, have been arrested in Samreboi, Western Region, for their alleged involvement in illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
The arrests were made on May 25, 2025, during a coordinated operation by the Special Anti-Galamsey Taskforce from the Ghana Police Service’s National Headquarters. This was confirmed in an official statement released on the Police Service’s verified Facebook page.
All suspects have been transported to Accra to assist with ongoing investigations.
According to the police, the taskforce is intensifying efforts in the Aowin Tano and Tano Anwia areas near Enchi, with a focus on identifying additional suspects and protecting nearby forest reserves from further environmental degradation.
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to the nationwide crackdown on illegal mining, stressing the importance of preserving natural resources and enforcing the rule of law.
