A young man sustained serious injuries after being knocked down by a commercial vehicle (trotro) while attempting to cross the Achimota Highway at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Eyewitnesses reported that the trotro was speeding when it struck the pedestrian. The incident nearly sparked violence, as some bystanders tried to confront and assault the driver.
A driver at the nearby Achimota Station, who witnessed the event, told Citi News that tensions quickly escalated. “People were furious and tried to attack the driver, but he managed to escape and went straight to the Tesano Police Station to report the incident,” he said.
With the support of police officers and another driver, the injured man was transported to the hospital for emergency medical attention.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and authorities are urging both drivers and pedestrians to observe road safety regulations to prevent such accidents.
