The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has issued a strong warning to the public, stating that any individual who assaults personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) will be arrested and prosecuted.
This announcement comes in response to a growing number of reported attacks on firefighters, often stemming from public frustration over perceived delays in emergency response times. Speaking during the commissioning of a new fire station at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, the Minister outlined immediate steps being taken to ensure the safety of fire officers.
“We are implementing decisive measures to protect our firefighters. Going forward, police officers will accompany fire personnel to emergency scenes. Anyone who assaults them will be arrested on the spot and prosecuted,” Hon. Muntaka declared.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, emphasized the importance of public support and cooperation in fire prevention.
“Safety is a shared responsibility. While firefighters dedicate themselves to saving lives and property, communities must also take proactive steps to prevent fires and respect the critical work these officers do,” Apostle Nyamekye stated.
The government’s renewed commitment underscores its dedication to creating a safer working environment for emergency responders while fostering public responsibility in fire prevention and safety.
