Gbenga Daniel Affirms Tinubu’s Capacity to Restructure Nigeria Through Strategic Reforms

Former Governor of Ogun State and serving Senator, Gbenga Daniel, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ability to restructure Nigeria and advance true federalism through bold reforms and strategic governance initiatives.

Speaking at the 99th Birthday Lecture in honour of Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Senator Daniel commended President Tinubu’s leadership for prioritizing electoral reforms, judicial independence, and, notably, the devolution of powers.

He highlighted the recent inauguration of Regional Development Commissions as a strategic step by the Tinubu administration toward entrenching federalism and promoting region-specific development. According to Daniel, these commissions could help address long-standing calls for resource control and administrative autonomy, particularly in southern Nigeria.

“Restructuring Nigeria in a way that earns the buy-in of all may not be as fast as some desire, but the benefits will come, fostering unity and cohesion,” Daniel stated.

In his lecture titled, "A Strong United Yoruba Race as Panacea for Reviving Vanishing Yoruba Values and Culture," Daniel emphasized the importance of cultural unity among the Yoruba people as a foundation for broader national transformation.

He acknowledged the ongoing resistance to restructuring, often driven by misconceptions and political distrust, but reiterated that the initiative is crucial for achieving national unity, equity, and sustainable development.

Senator Daniel also called on Afenifere to collaborate with like-minded socio-political organizations to build consensus on critical national issues and convert shared goals into actionable political strategies.
