Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has called on Ghanaians not to credit the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.
Speaking at an event held at Central University, Mr. Agyapong argued that the NDC has not introduced any measures that could be linked to the strengthening of the cedi against the US dollar. He stressed that no single political party, including the NPP or NDC, holds the power to ensure the long-term stability of the national currency.
According to Mr. Agyapong, the recent improvement in the cedi’s value is primarily the result of a decline in demand for the US dollar, rather than the outcome of any deliberate policy actions by a political party.
He urged the public to exercise caution when assigning credit for currency fluctuations, particularly when doing so in favor of the NDC, which, in his view, has not played a role in the current economic developments.
