A real estate agent, identified as Olamilekan Olaitan from the Odo Ado area in Ado-Ekiti, has come under fire after allegedly misappropriating a client’s rent payment for gambling purposes. Olaitan reportedly took ₦225,000—equivalent to approximately GHS 1,500—which was meant to secure a rental property and instead used it to place bets on the Bet9ja virtual platform.
The matter came to light following a complaint, prompting swift action from the Estate, Rent & Commission Agents Association of Nigeria (ERCAAN). During questioning by the association’s task force, Olaitan admitted to using the entire sum for online gambling, failing to secure any accommodation for the client.
In response, the ERCAAN task force detained the suspect and subjected him to public disciplinary measures. The association has since issued a stern warning to other real estate professionals, urging them to adhere strictly to ethical practices or risk similar consequences.
The case has been transferred to the Nigerian Police for further investigation and possible prosecution under the law.
