The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that its Executive Board will conduct a review in early July 2025 to assess Ghana’s progress under the fourth review of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme. If approved, the review will pave the way for a $370 million disbursement, bringing total IMF support to Ghana to approximately $2.4 billion since the programme began in May 2023.

This upcoming review is a key part of Ghana’s broader economic reform agenda, which is focused on restoring macroeconomic stability, ensuring debt sustainability, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

The development was confirmed by Julie Kozack, Director of Communications at the IMF, during a press briefing.

“On April 15, IMF staff reached a staff-level agreement with the Ghanaian authorities on the fourth review. Once the Executive Board grants its approval, Ghana will be eligible for a disbursement of about $370 million,” Kozack stated.

“We expect to present the review to the Board in early July—just a few weeks from now.”

The IMF also noted recent positive developments in Ghana’s economy, including the appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, and emphasized that the Fund continues to closely monitor the country’s financial conditions.

“As part of our ongoing evaluations, we assess all major economic indicators, including exchange rate movements. Future programme reviews will consider Ghana’s evolving macroeconomic and financial context to ensure the programme remains well-aligned with its objectives,” Kozack added.

The IMF’s financial support is part of a broader $3 billion programme designed to help Ghana navigate a difficult economic environment characterized by high inflation, fiscal imbalances, and a weakened currency.

The upcoming review and potential disbursement are seen as critical milestones in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to stabilize its economy and regain investor confidence.
