Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has formally apologized to his former manager, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, also known as Bullgod, for accusing him of being involved in the death of Fennec Okyere, the late manager of rapper Kwaw Kese.
In November 2022, Shatta Wale made public allegations implicating Bullgod in the murder of Okyere. The accusations sparked widespread attention and led to legal action. Bullgod’s legal team subsequently filed a defamation lawsuit at the Accra High Court, arguing that the statements were not only damaging to his reputation but also inappropriate, especially as the murder case remained under investigation.
As part of the lawsuit, Bullgod sought a court declaration that Shatta Wale’s remarks were defamatory and malicious. The resolution of the case required Shatta Wale to issue a formal retraction and provide financial compensation.
On April 30, 2025, Shatta Wale addressed a letter to Bullgod in which he expressed remorse for his statements. “I also wish to apologize to Mr. Hanson (Bullgod) and all the persons whom my publications of November 2, 2022, have caused pain, agony, anguish, shame, ridicule, or hatred,” the letter stated.
The ‘On God’ hitmaker also officially retracted his earlier statements, saying: “I wish to retract each of the statements in the said series of publications, as I did not mean to say that Mr. Hanson had a hand in the murder of Fennec Okyere.”
Shatta Wale acknowledged that the claims he made, which were based on what he believed to be confessions from Bullgod, were ultimately “misunderstood or misconstrued.”
