Former President John Dramani Mahama has praised Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed Ghana GoldBoard (Goldbod), for his impressive leadership during the organization’s formative weeks.
Speaking at the official launch of Goldbod, Mahama highlighted Gyamfi’s early achievements, saying, “Mr. Sammy Gyamfi is the Chief Executive of the Ghana Goldbod, and he is already doing wonders.”
Launched on April 2, 2025, Goldbod replaces the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). Its mandate is to bring more structure, transparency, and regulation to Ghana’s gold trading sector, particularly within the small-scale mining industry.
Despite being only a few weeks into operations, the institution under Gyamfi’s guidance has already rolled out critical reforms. These include the deployment of advanced gold export tracking systems and initiatives to curb smuggling and prevent revenue losses.
Internal reports suggest that these measures are already paying off. Stakeholders report greater transparency and improved accountability, with miners and exporters increasingly showing confidence in the new system. Preliminary data also points to an uptick in export revenue, thanks to stricter controls and improved documentation.
Sammy Gyamfi’s leadership is being widely acknowledged as a significant and timely effort to overhaul a sector long plagued by inefficiencies and illegal activities.
