Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaian students studying abroad to stay connected to their homeland and contribute to the country’s sustainable development.

Speaking at an event organized by the Ghanaian Association in Iowa at Drake University, the Vice President emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong link with Ghana, encouraging students to “appreciate the solid foundation provided by Ghana’s educational system,” which she described as a platform that continues to prepare young people for global excellence.

She was accompanied by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, and Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith. The delegation met with Ghanaians from Iowa and neighboring states to discuss the government’s vision for inclusive and equitable national development.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and highlighted the need for Pan-African unity, noting that “Ghana’s progress is closely tied to the advancement of her neighboring countries.”

She reminded the audience that Ghana remains their home and encouraged them to give back through knowledge-sharing, innovation, and community service. “Every Ghanaian, regardless of their circumstances, has something valuable to contribute to our nation’s development,” she said.

The Vice President concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to building a society where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive, stressing that true development must be inclusive.
