The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed gratitude that the party had the opportunity to officially recognize the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, as the Founding Mother of the NDC before her passing.
In a condolence statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, the NDC noted:
“On June 22, 2025—the birth date of our party’s founder, which we institutionalized as an annual celebration—I publicly declared that it was time for Mrs. Rawlings to reclaim her rightful place as the Founding Mother of the NDC. That declaration reflected our deep appreciation of her foundational role and lasting impact on our movement.”
The statement added that the party finds solace in the fact that this acknowledgment came while Mrs. Rawlings was still alive:
“We take comfort in knowing that this recognition was made during her lifetime, reaffirming our enduring respect and gratitude for her legacy.”
The NDC extended its condolences to the Rawlings family, saying:
“On behalf of the National Democratic Congress, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Rawlings family, especially her children and loved ones. We share in their grief and pray for strength and comfort in this difficult time.”
