A high-risk police operation in the Ashanti Region has resulted in the death of two armed robbery suspects, including the notorious Osman Majid Abdul Sadik, popularly known as "Cross." He had long been on the police's wanted list for his involvement in a series of violent crimes, including multiple robberies and the murder of three individuals in Mankranso and surrounding areas.
According to the Ashanti South Regional Police Command, intelligence reports indicated that Cross and his gang were hiding in three separate locations within Offinso, located in the Ashanti North Region.
Acting on this information, a coordinated, intelligence-led operation was launched, involving three senior officers and several personnel, supported by four police vehicles—both marked and unmarked. The team executed simultaneous raids on the identified hideouts.
At one of the hideouts in Offinso Anyankaso, the suspects resisted arrest. Cross reportedly fired a weapon from inside his room and attempted to escape through the ceiling. In response, officers returned fire, injuring both Cross and another suspect, identified as 20-year-old Abdulai Sadik.
A subsequent search of the premises uncovered a cache of weapons and items believed to be used in the gang’s criminal activities. These included:
- One pump-action shotgun with six rounds of ammunition
- One unmarked pistol
- One Smith & Wesson pistol
- Fifty rounds of 9mm ammunition
- Two spent cartridges
- One machete
- A smock and ash singlet adorned with talismans
- Black and brown body armour
- A Ghana Card bearing the image of Osman Majid (alias Cross)
- An amount of GH₵2,680 in cash
Before being evacuated, Cross reportedly confessed to his involvement in several armed robberies and admitted to the murder of three individuals in the Mankranso area. He also named several accomplices, identified only by aliases: Kingkong, Roy, Fii, Raph, Koboo, Ali, and Ike. He claimed that some gang members, specifically Kingkong, Koboo, and Ali, were in possession of additional weapons stored at a mining site in Manso.
Both injured suspects were transported to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy and further investigation.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has since launched a full-scale investigation and is actively pursuing the named accomplices. Efforts are also underway to retrieve the remaining weapons and dismantle the gang’s network.
