Ghana Armed Forces Resumes Soldier Discharges, Marking Major Institutional Milestone

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has marked one of its most significant institutional achievements in recent years with the resumption of general releases for soldiers who have completed their authorised years of service. This development affects personnel across the Service Brigade, Southern Command, Central Command, Northern Command, and the Recce Brigade.

Following a five-year suspension under Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129—which extended the service tenure of affected personnel—the GAF has officially announced the commencement of the release process beginning in May 2025.

According to a statement dated April 30, 2025, and signed by the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, the first phase will see the honourable discharge of members of the 1995 and 1996 year groups. These soldiers have either completed 30 years of service or reached the mandatory retirement age as outlined in GAF regulations.

This move underscores the GAF's commitment to upholding its service policies and ensuring career progression and renewal within the force.
