Two Nigerian Women Jailed in Ghana for Human Trafficking-Linked Prostitution

Two Nigerian women have been sentenced to prison in Ghana following their involvement in human trafficking and illegal sex trade activities, according to a report from GhPage.

The women were arrested after investigations revealed their alleged role in recruiting and transporting young Nigerian women to Ghana under the guise of employment opportunities. Once in Ghana, the victims were reportedly coerced into prostitution, locally referred to as the "Ashawo" business.

Sources indicate that the majority of the trafficked women were forced into the trade against their will, raising serious concerns about human rights violations and exploitation.

A Ghanaian court has sentenced the two women to a combined total of 18 years in prison—nine years each—for their crime.
