Jurors at the Accra High Court have officially suspended their services as of Monday, June 2, 2025, citing the non-payment of their allowances for the past eight months.
The group, expressing deep frustration, stated that multiple efforts to engage judicial authorities on the issue have been ignored. They formally notified the Acting Chief Justice of their decision to withdraw services but have yet to receive any concrete assurance regarding the payment of outstanding allowances.
Speaking to Citi News, spokesperson for the jurors, Joshua Alorgbey, lamented the prolonged delay and its financial toll on members.
“We are now in the eighth month without pay. The jurors have served notice to the Acting Chief Justice and the Judicial Service that we are on strike starting today, June 2,” Alorgbey stated. “We’ve held several meetings with both the Acting Chief Justice and the Judicial Service since October 2024, but the matter keeps being postponed. The legal year is nearing its end—what happens to our money? We can no longer keep borrowing or reporting to court under these conditions.”
The suspension is expected to disrupt ongoing court proceedings and may have broader implications for the administration of justice if a resolution is not reached promptly.
