The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly has issued a five-day ultimatum to individuals who leave vehicles on public roads under the guise of performing repairs. Offenders have been instructed to remove these vehicles immediately or face stringent penalties.
This directive forms part of a wider decongestion initiative led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Frank Nkansah. The campaign aims to reclaim public spaces and restore order across the municipality.
“We are launching a decongestion exercise to address the unauthorized use of streets and public spaces. Many of our major roads have effectively become makeshift garages, contributing to severe traffic congestion and disrupting the daily lives of residents,” Mr. Nkansah said during an inspection tour.
He emphasized that repairing vehicles on public roads is a public nuisance and must be discontinued immediately. All affected vehicles must be relocated to appropriate garages without delay.
To ensure compliance, municipal guards will begin enforcement operations on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Vehicles found abandoned on the streets will be towed, and the responsible parties will face penalties in accordance with the municipality’s bylaws.
Mr. Nkansah reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting discipline, cleanliness, and public safety. He appealed to residents to support the campaign and play a role in creating a more organized and livable community.
During his tour, the MCE also inspected an illegal dumping site near the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Ayigbe Town, close to the Agbogbloshie market. He expressed deep concern over the widespread unauthorized waste disposal in the area, citing its serious environmental and public health hazards.
“This situation is completely unacceptable and requires urgent national attention and a coordinated response,” Mr. Nkansah stated.
While commending the efforts of local authorities, he acknowledged that addressing Ghana’s waste management challenges requires collaboration among government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and the general public.
He further announced that the Assembly will soon introduce more stringent measures to combat illegal dumping and enhance sanitation standards throughout the municipality.
