Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has raised serious concerns in Parliament about the whereabouts of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, questioning Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s earlier assurances regarding his return.
Speaking in the House on Tuesday, June 3, Ayariga reminded MPs that Afenyo-Markin had pledged Ofori-Atta would be back in Ghana by the end of May 2025 after receiving medical treatment abroad. However, as of June, there has been no sign of Ofori-Atta’s return, prompting Ayariga to cast doubt on the Minority Leader’s credibility.
“He promised this House that he would bring Ken Ofori-Atta in May; we are in June—where is Ken Ofori-Atta?” Ayariga asked. “When we make promises in this House, we must fulfill them. He should not be heard if he cannot stand by his word.”
Ayariga also criticized the Minority for what he called “selective solidarity,” pointing to their absence at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) during the recent detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.
Ofori-Atta is reportedly under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over alleged corruption-related offenses and has not responded to a summons, fueling ongoing public scrutiny and concerns over transparency and accountability in high-profile cases.
