The Ghana Police Service has officially released the autopsy report for 28-year-old student nurse Gifty Okyere, putting to rest weeks of speculation and conflicting media narratives surrounding her sudden death.
According to the report, Gifty died as a result of a severe asthma attack, not from complications related to an alleged illegal abortion as previously rumored online.
Gifty passed away in the room of her boyfriend, Edmond Ayomah, in Jinijini, a town in Ghana’s Bono Region. Initial reports, largely driven by social media speculation, suggested that her death might have been linked to a failed abortion attempt, allegedly involving Edmond.
However, police officials have firmly dismissed those claims. At a press briefing, authorities in Jinijini confirmed that the autopsy found no evidence of foul play or any unsafe medical procedures. Instead, it concluded that Gifty suffered an acute asthma attack while in Edmond’s presence.
Eyewitness accounts state that she began having difficulty breathing and collapsed before medical help could arrive. Despite efforts to revive her, she was unresponsive by the time emergency services were contacted.
With the findings now public, Edmond Ayomah has been cleared of all suspicion and wrongdoing, and the police have officially closed the case, affirming there was no criminal element involved in Gifty’s death.
Following weeks of public scrutiny, Edmond has since returned to his family, having been fully exonerated.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid spreading misinformation, particularly in sensitive cases that involve health emergencies and personal tragedy.
