Ghanaian blogger and media personality Rashad, known for his Rash Hour Show on GhPage, has voiced strong criticism of the ongoing nationwide nurses' strike, warning of its dangerous impact on patient care.
On his latest show, Rashad expressed concern for the many vulnerable patients suffering due to the strike, which has disrupted healthcare services across the country. While he acknowledged that nurses have valid concerns—especially regarding salaries and working conditions—he argued that the strike should not come at the cost of human lives.
"Yes, they deserve better pay and working environments, but patients’ lives also matter," Rashad stated. "It is unacceptable that critically ill individuals are being left unattended because of a strike. This isn’t just about labour rights—this is about life and death."
He further argued that nurses, like police and military personnel, should be considered essential workers and, therefore, restricted from engaging in strike actions. According to Rashad, there should be more sustainable mechanisms in place to address healthcare workers’ grievances without endangering public safety.
“Nurses should be placed in the same category as emergency workers. There has to be a system that allows them to voice their concerns while keeping healthcare services running,” he added.
The strike, organized by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has caused serious disruptions in medical facilities nationwide. Many patients and their families are urging the government to act swiftly to resolve the crisis and restore essential services.
Rashad’s remarks reflect a broader wave of public frustration as the deadlock continues. Citizens are calling for a balanced solution that respects the rights of healthcare workers while prioritizing patient care.
As of now, negotiations between the GRNMA and the government remain stalled, leaving the healthcare system under severe strain as the strike persists.
