Ghana’s Parliamentary Minority Caucus is demanding answers from GHOne TV regarding the appointment of Dr. Ann Sansa Daly as the host of its medical television program, Health and Life with Dr. Daly. The Caucus has issued a one-week deadline for the station to respond to their concerns.
This development follows the recent revocation of Dr. Daly’s position on the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) by former President John Dramani Mahama. Reports suggest the decision was influenced by questions surrounding Dr. Daly’s qualifications and credibility as a medical professional.
In an official letter signed by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, the Minority expressed serious reservations about GHOne TV’s vetting process prior to Dr. Daly’s engagement. The group is particularly concerned given the public health implications of disseminating medical information through mainstream media.
The Caucus is requesting that GHOne TV provide detailed information on:
- The criteria and background checks used to verify Dr. Daly’s medical qualifications.
- Documentation submitted by Dr. Daly to substantiate her professional status.
- The station’s internal processes for reviewing and approving medical content.
- Any remedial measures GHOne TV plans to implement in response to these concerns.
“The Ghanaian public depends on credible media platforms for accurate health information. It is vital that individuals tasked with delivering such content meet all professional and legal standards,” the letter emphasized.
The Minority also underscored the dangers of misinformation and the importance of accountability when it comes to public health communication.
As of now, GHOne TV has not issued a public response to the Minority’s demands.
