During a recent broadcast of Good Evening Ghana, host Paul Adom-Otchere took aim at North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, raising concerns about a reported GHC 400,000 allocation to the lawmaker from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
Adom-Otchere, while acknowledging Ablakwa’s past efforts in exposing questionable public contracts—most notably his role in the cancellation of a deal involving Bryan Acheampong—criticized what he described as a contradiction between the MP’s anti-corruption stance and his alleged acceptance of state funds.
“Honourable Ablakwa, you accused others of corruption with passion and evidence,” Adom-Otchere stated. “Well done. But now, why are you accepting GHC 400,000 from GETFund when you had benefits from your time at the Foreign Ministry?”
The broadcaster argued that any politician truly committed to fighting corruption should voluntarily reject such allocations, especially when those same individuals have publicly condemned similar actions by others. He challenged Ablakwa to make a public statement in Parliament and decline the funds.
“Can’t you, just once, stand up and say, ‘Mr. Speaker, I will not accept this money?’” Adom-Otchere asked.
Drawing comparisons with past controversies under the Akufo-Addo administration—such as the political distribution of GETFund scholarships—Adom-Otchere suggested that Ablakwa’s situation echoed the very issues the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized.
“Is this the alternative the NDC is offering to Ghanaians?” he questioned. “Are we seeing a repetition of the same practices they condemned in the NPP?”
He concluded by calling for consistency and accountability from politicians on all sides, urging them to match their public rhetoric with personal integrity—especially in matters involving taxpayer money.
