Accra, Ghana – September 20, 2025
The Government of Ghana has extended financial support of $50,000 each to Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars to assist in their preparations for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
The announcement was made by President John Dramani Mahama during a courtesy visit by representatives of both clubs to the Jubilee House. The delegation included officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
President Mahama commended the clubs for qualifying for the prestigious continental competition and encouraged them to strive for excellence and represent Ghana with pride. He emphasized the importance of strong performances on the African stage as a means of promoting Ghanaian football.
"The government remains committed to supporting local football clubs as they pursue success on the continent. We want to see Ghanaian teams excel and raise the national flag high," the President said.
In addition to the financial support, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure. He revealed plans to construct seven new stadiums across the country in 2026, with a focus on the newly created regions.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, who accompanied the delegation, assured the President of the players’ readiness and determination to make the nation proud.
Meanwhile, GFA President Kurt Okraku appealed to the corporate sector to invest in the domestic football league, stating that robust local support is essential for long-term success in international competitions.
The financial boost is expected to significantly aid the two clubs in their logistics, training, and overall preparations ahead of their CAF Champions League fixtures.
