Mobile money transactions in Ghana reached a total value of GH¢354.1 billion in August 2025, according to the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
Although this represents a slight decline from GH¢355.4 billion recorded in July 2025, mobile money continues to play a dominant role in Ghana’s financial ecosystem.
Notably, the number of mobile money transactions rose sharply to 831 million in August, up from 778 million in July. This increase highlights the growing reliance on digital payment platforms across the country.
The report also shows continued growth in mobile money account registrations. Registered accounts climbed to 77.7 million, with 25.1 million active users, reflecting significant progress in financial inclusion efforts nationwide.
Industry analysts point out that despite the marginal dip in the total value of transactions, the consistent rise in both transaction volume and user activity indicates growing consumer confidence in mobile money for everyday transactions, remittances, and business activities.
Mobile money interoperability—enabling transfers across different networks—also gained momentum. Cross-network transaction values rose to GH¢4.9 billion, driven by 26.4 million transactions.
Experts say that despite persistent challenges such as currency fluctuations and broader fiscal pressures, the continued expansion of mobile money usage underscores the resilience of Ghana’s digital financial infrastructure. It also reaffirms mobile money’s role as a cornerstone of the country’s economic landscape.
