President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by the government to construct seven new stadia across Ghana next year. The initiative is part of a broader agenda to enhance sports infrastructure and promote football development at the regional level.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by players and officials from Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars at the Jubilee House on Saturday afternoon.
Addressing the gathering, President Mahama emphasized the importance of providing each of Ghana's newly created regions with a modern, fit-for-purpose stadium to facilitate the growth of local talent and improve the overall competitiveness of Ghanaian football.
"The Finance Minister will present the national budget in November, and I’ve informed the Sports Minister and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority that in 2026, we intend to build about seven brand-new stadia," President Mahama stated.
"Our aim is to ensure that every new region has a stadium that meets modern standards. This will improve playing conditions and raise the level of competitive football across the country."
This development forms part of the NDC’s broader sports policy, which aims to invest in youth development, community engagement, and national sporting excellence.
