Assafuah Raises Concerns Over Transparency in Azumah Resources Transaction

Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, has expressed serious concerns about the transparency and due process involved in the Azumah Resources–Engineers & Planners (E&P) deal. He emphasized the critical importance of accountability in transactions involving strategic national assets.

In a statement shared on social media, Assafuah questioned the legitimacy of the transaction, pointing to the involvement of individuals with no legal or economic control over the company. He referenced comments by Bright Simmons, who noted that Ibaera, the actual owner of the mine, was not the entity that transferred the shares. Instead, the transfer was executed by someone without any ownership stake in Azumah Resources.

"This deal raises significant questions about transparency and due process," Assafuah remarked. "The fact that shares were transferred by an individual with no stake in the company is troubling, especially in the context of such valuable national assets."

The MP stressed that this situation is part of a broader concern regarding the management of sensitive national resources. He argued that such transactions, when shrouded in ambiguity, can undermine public trust and create doubts about whether the state is adequately safeguarding the interests of its citizens.

"This is a part of a worrying trend where strategic national assets seem to be handled under questionable circumstances. At a minimum, the public deserves clarity and transparency when it comes to major transactions, especially those involving companies with links to powerful figures in government," Assafuah concluded.

This controversy highlights the growing demand for greater oversight and accountability in the management of Ghana's national assets.
