Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, has firmly pledged that the newly launched Big Push road infrastructure project in Afienya, located in the Greater Accra Region, will be completed within the designated 24-month timeline.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Minister Agbodza described the initiative as a landmark development in Ghana’s road sector. He emphasized the project’s significance, calling it one of the most ambitious single-time investments in road infrastructure under any administration.
“Mr. President, our ministry currently owes contractors approximately GHC40 billion,” Agbodza revealed. “However, during our visits to all 16 regions, it was often unclear what tangible results this expenditure had produced.”
Despite this financial challenge, he commended President John Dramani Mahama for showing leadership and commitment by launching what he referred to as “the largest road intervention undertaken at once in Ghana's history.”
He added, “The Big Push is not a political campaign promise. It is a strategic and results-driven intervention spearheaded by your government.”
Agbodza reassured the public of the government's dedication to delivering on its promises. “We are not just talking. The Big Push will be executed, and the evidence will be visible. When we say this project will be done in 24 months, we mean business. I am confident that the contractor working on this stretch can deliver in even less time.”
The launch of the Big Push project has been welcomed by stakeholders as a potential game-changer in addressing critical infrastructure gaps across the country.
