Authorities in Thailand are seeking Jakapong “Anne” Jakrajutatip, co-owner of the Miss Universe pageant, after she failed to appear at a scheduled civil court hearing, multiple reports indicate.
According to *The Independent* and *France 24*, the Bangkok South Civil Court issued the arrest warrant after Jakrajutatip missed a verdict in a $930,000 lawsuit, which was set to be announced on Tuesday.
Jakrajutatip was accused of fraud in 2023 following a lawsuit by plastic surgeon Raweewat Maschamadol. He claimed that Jakrajutatip and her company, JKN Global Group Public Co. Ltd, misled him while selling corporate bonds.
A court statement shared by *France 24* alleges that Jakrajutatip encouraged Maschamadol to invest despite knowing she could not return the funds on time. *The Independent* described her as a flight risk.
While the lawsuit is unrelated to the Miss Universe pageant itself, Jakrajutatip’s legal issues add to recent controversies surrounding the event. Earlier this month, tensions flared when Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, clashed with a pageant official.
Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil called Bosch a “dummy,” prompting her and several other contestants to walk out. The Miss Universe Organization President, Raul Rocha Cantu, later condemned Itsaragrisil’s remarks.
Bosch ultimately won the pageant, though many fans felt contestants from Thailand, the Philippines, or Côte d’Ivoire were deserving of the crown.
