A Nigerian soldier has voiced deep frustration over what he describes as severe, unresolved issues within the nation’s security system, criticizing the government for its handling of the rising wave of violence across the country.
In a video now circulating widely online, the soldier claimed that frontline troops are increasingly vulnerable despite the growing number of casualties.
Soldier Laments Neglect and Low Morale
He stated that many personnel feel abandoned, overstretched, and left without clear information about ongoing security operations. According to him, political leaders appear to prioritize personal interests while expecting soldiers to continue putting their lives at risk.
He further alleged that the welfare and safety of soldiers’ families are being overlooked, which has created widespread dissatisfaction within the military.
“Citizens May Have to Defend Themselves”
The soldier expressed concern that if insecurity continues to worsen, both citizens and security personnel may eventually be forced to defend themselves due to diminishing trust in national leadership.
He also questioned whether Nigeria still has effective leadership capable of addressing the growing crisis.
In part, he said:
“Ladies and gentlemen of the armed forces, something deep is going on, and they’re not telling us. If it comes to dropping our rifles and picking up cutlasses to defend our families, we will. Our families need us more than leaders who only count money while their children are abroad. Bring their children to do this work too—I’m tired. They keep killing people, and no one is talking. Are we stones? Are we firewood? Maybe because it hasn’t touched their children yet. A time will come when everyone will have to fight for themselves. I’m telling you boldly—I can’t save the nation anymore. I’m not even sure we still have a president.”
The video has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the morale of security personnel entrusted with protecting the country.
