The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhassan Fataw Jofa, has commissioned a mechanised borehole for residents of Nakpache in the Yendi Municipality, marking a significant step toward resolving the community’s long-standing challenge of accessing potable water.
For years, residents—particularly women—have struggled to obtain safe drinking water, often walking long distances, especially during the dry season. Their plight, repeatedly highlighted by Channel One News, has now drawn the necessary intervention.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Jofa urged community members to safeguard the facility and ensure its fair and peaceful use. He emphasized that the borehole would greatly reduce the community’s daily burden.
“There was a time when a solar water system was provided for them, but it did not last. When we came, we realized the situation was a major challenge. I assured them that once given the mandate, this issue would be addressed. I’m happy that within the first year of my four-year term, this promise has been fulfilled,” he said.
In addition to the borehole, the MP also cut sod for the construction of a CHPS compound for the community. He noted that limited access to healthcare remains a critical issue for residents, particularly during emergencies along the Yendi–Bimbilla road.
At the sod-cutting ceremony, Mr. Jofa encouraged the contractor to deliver high-quality work, use locally available materials, and employ local labour. He further appealed to residents to cooperate with and support the contractor throughout the project’s duration.
“The contractor will need the community’s support to complete the project within the stipulated timeline. I also urge him to incorporate as much local content as possible, including hiring workers from the community,” he added.
