Residents of the Ejiba community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State were thrown into panic on Sunday morning when armed terrorists invaded a Cherubim and Seraphim Church during worship and abducted several congregants.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the church while prayers were ongoing, firing sporadically and forcing worshippers to run for safety. Amid the confusion, the gunmen reportedly abducted the church’s pastor, popularly known as Orlando, his wife, and several other members. The exact number of victims has not yet been confirmed.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has left the previously peaceful community in shock. Many residents described the attack as one of the most terrifying events the area has witnessed this year. Reports also indicate that the church was newly established in the community, making the attack particularly unexpected.
The Kogi State Government has confirmed the incident and announced that a full-scale rescue operation is underway. Security agencies, including local vigilante groups and police units, have intensified efforts to track down the attackers and secure the safe return of the abducted worshippers.
