The Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kpandai Constituency has expressed its disappointment with the Tamale High Court’s ruling, which ordered a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election.
In a statement, the youth wing described the judgment as "deeply regrettable" and a "miscarriage of justice."
Speaking at the party office, Kpandai NPP Youth Organiser Joe Ladur stated that while the party acknowledges the ruling, it remains dissatisfied and is confident that the Court of Appeal will overturn the decision.
“We urge all our members to stay resolute as we await the decision of the Court of Appeal. We are confident in the strength of our case,” he said.
The youth wing insisted that the electoral dispute would not have occurred if not for what they described as "acts of disruption" allegedly carried out by their opponents during the collation of results. They pointed to a video circulating online, which purportedly shows individuals associated with the NDC candidate's campaign vehicle disrupting activities at the collation centre.
Mr. Ladur emphasized that the NPP is prepared for any outcome, including a potential rerun, and vowed to "take all necessary steps to safeguard the votes of the people of Kpandai."
“We will not allow any unscrupulous individual to steal the people's verdict. We will resist any attempt to impose a weak and ineffective leader on this constituency,” he stated.
The NPP Youth Wing also called on relevant stakeholders to condemn what they described as the actions of the NDC candidate, stressing that peace and stability in the constituency must not be compromised.
The youth wing further raised concerns about aspects of the court's ruling, including the decision to order a constituency-wide rerun, despite the petition reportedly focusing on just 41 out of 152 polling stations. They questioned why a recollation of only those specific stations was not considered.
