Tension has engulfed the Tofah community in the Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State following a deadly attack reportedly carried out by armed bandits on Tuesday night. Several residents are feared dead, while others were abducted during the incident.
According to community members, the attack occurred shortly after a sudden network shutdown in the area. Witnesses reported that the armed men arrived in large numbers, moving from house to house while firing indiscriminately.
Residents Flee at Dawn
Local security commentator Bakatsine confirmed the incident in a post on X. He stated that many residents fled the community at daybreak due to fear and uncertainty.
He wrote:
“SAD NEWS: Yesterday night, armed bandits attacked Tofah community in Rabah LGA of Sokoto State. The incident occurred shortly after a network shutdown and the attackers fired repeatedly as they moved through the village.
“Several residents were killed, others were injured, and some were taken away. Because of the fear and uncertainty that followed, many people fled the community early this morning.
“For how long will residents continue to run for safety, and when will authorities bring an end to this suffering?”

As of the time of reporting, neither security agencies nor government authorities have issued an official statement. The exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.
The attack occurred only hours after the Federal Government announced the rescue of schoolgirls abducted weeks earlier in Kebbi State, raising renewed concerns about escalating insecurity across northern Nigeria.
