Trending!!: Lady Fakes Her Death to Avoid Paying Debt, Plan Backfires

A dramatic and humorous incident has taken over social media after a woman allegedly faked her own death in an attempt to escape paying her ajo (thrift contribution) debt.

According to a post shared by Instagram user @babyblogger_new, the woman, identified as Imisi, had been defaulting on her contribution payments for some time. When pressure from other group members intensified, she reportedly conspired with her sister to stage her “death.”

To convince the thrift group, they recorded a video showing Imisi wrapped in white cloth with cotton stuffed in her nostrils, mimicking a corpse. The video was then circulated among group members to validate the false claim.

Her sister further fueled the deception by posting a message in the group chat, alleging that Imisi had died as a result of threats linked to her unpaid debt.

The stunt quickly went viral, sparking widespread amusement and disbelief. Many Nigerians have described it as one of the “wildest excuses ever used to avoid repaying debt,” while others jokingly suggested that Imisi deserved an award for “best actress in a financial crisis.”

It remains uncertain whether she has since paid back the money, but the incident has drawn significant attention online—highlighting the extreme lengths some individuals may go to in order to avoid financial responsibilities.
