A new wave of controversy has surfaced in the ongoing dispute between the family of the late musician Mohbad and his widow, Omowunmi, following a fresh statement released by the singer’s father.
In a newly circulated audio recording, Mohbad’s father stated that he never witnessed or approved any traditional marriage rites between his son and Omowunmi. According to him, the only event he attended was an introduction ceremony, not a wedding.
He expressed confusion over claims that a traditional wedding had taken place, questioning who could have received the bride price without the acknowledgment or presence of the family head.
“When my son was alive and Cynthia said she was pregnant, I felt it was right to meet her family properly.
When we got to the venue, I saw many of her family members. We concluded the introduction, and I met the man I was told was my son’s father-in-law for the first time.
But now I’m hearing people say a traditional wedding was done — without me or any family elder present. Who collected the bride price?”
Mohbad’s father further alleged that the singer later halted plans for a formal wedding after accusing Omowunmi of being unfaithful.
“He said he caught her with another man and told his friend Myson, as well as his elder sibling and mother, before informing me. That was why he ended the marriage plans.”
He added that these issues are part of the reasons he continues to request a DNA test to confirm the paternity of Mohbad’s son.
“That is one of the reasons I’m asking for a DNA test.”
Wunmi Moves to Legally Protect Mohbad’s Estate
This development follows Omowunmi’s recent legal action aimed at safeguarding the late artist’s estate from unauthorized claims. Her move sparked renewed debates around custody and inheritance between both families.
Earlier, Mohbad’s relatives publicly cautioned her against using their surname in any official or personal documents until paternity is legally verified, insisting that no valid statutory or customary marriage existed between her and the late singer.
