Lawyers representing Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and Akonta Mining, have signaled their intention to apply for a court order to compel the prosecution to release additional documents they claim are crucial to their defence.

The legal team argues that key materials necessary for preparing their case were not included in the disclosures provided by the State.

Antwi-Boasiako and Akonta Mining are facing trial on allegations that they allowed mining activities on their Samreboi concession without the required approvals.

During a hearing on Tuesday, November 25, which was set for a case management conference, lead defence counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi informed the court of their intention to formally request additional disclosures.

This came after the prosecution maintained that the documents submitted on October 31 and November 11 represented the complete set of materials they intend to use in the trial.

Appiah-Kubi explained that the defence had been expecting supplementary disclosures, including documents that may not be introduced as evidence but could still be relevant in assisting the accused during case management.

He further noted that although the defence had drafted a motion for full disclosure, it had not yet been filed, and thus requested more time to complete the process.

In response, the presiding judge directed the defence to file and serve the motion on the prosecution once it is ready.

The court also ordered the accused parties to submit the names and addresses of all witnesses they intend to call at trial, should the prosecution establish a prima facie case.

The case has been adjourned to December 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., when the defence's application for additional disclosures is expected to be heard.
