The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion involving members of its Customs Division Task Force in the Ashanti Region.
The action follows formal complaints submitted by the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG).
In a press statement issued on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the GRA confirmed receiving reports that certain officers had intercepted containers en route to Kumasi on the grounds that the goods were allegedly undervalued.
According to TAGG, the officers in question reportedly demanded additional payments from the importer, who insisted that the charges were unjustified.
The GRA emphasized that it is treating the allegations with the utmost seriousness and has initiated a comprehensive internal inquiry to establish the facts. The Authority assured the public that the findings will be made available once the investigation is complete.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the GRA encouraged traders, importers, and the general public to report any suspected misconduct through its official channels. It noted that maintaining integrity within its operations remains a top priority.
