The Enugu State Police, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender Affairs, has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly marrying a 13-year-old girl in Amufie, Enugu Ezike, located in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.
The arrest follows the circulation of a viral video on X (formerly Twitter), which showed an elaborate wedding ceremony involving the underage girl.
Reports indicate that the girl’s parents, along with a woman named Ezenwanyi, who is accused of orchestrating and facilitating the marriage, have also been detained following widespread public outrage.
The incident has sparked strong condemnation from the local community and across social media platforms, with many calling for stricter enforcement of child protection laws and greater accountability for those involved in such acts.
In response to the situation, the concerned Igbo-Eze North Youth (CINY) organization commended the Enugu State Government, the Ministry of Gender Affairs, and the police for their prompt action in addressing the matter.
