A 16-year-old boy and six young women have been abducted from Gidan-Bijimi in Kawu Ward, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, following a late-night attack that has thrown the community into panic.
Residents Panic After Late-Night Invasion
A resident, Suleiman Shuaibu, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that armed bandits wielding AK-47 rifles invaded two houses around 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday. The victims include a 16-year-old boy and six girls aged between 17 and 23.
According to Shuaibu, the attackers fired multiple gunshots, forcing residents to flee for safety. Community vigilante members attempted to confront the bandits but were overpowered due to the criminals’ superior firepower.
He added that many residents fled their homes after the attack, and there has been no communication from the kidnappers since the abduction.
Family Members Among the Kidnapped
Shuaibu revealed that one of his relatives was among those taken.
“It was around 9:53 p.m. when a call came from Gidan-Bijimi that bandits invaded the village and abducted six young girls. Unfortunately, my cousin sister happened to be among the victims,” he said.
Attempts to reach SP Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, were unsuccessful as calls and messages were not answered at the time of reporting.
Heightened Security Across Abuja
The incident occurred shortly after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike directed security agencies to intensify surveillance across Abuja, particularly at border points and major entry routes.
Following the directive, a joint task force involving the Police, DSS, military, and other agencies was deployed across the capital.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, urged the security team to work collaboratively to combat criminal activities. He noted that the minister had provided the necessary logistics to support the enhanced security operations and ensure residents’ safety.
