Former Labour Minister and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Chris Ngige, narrowly escaped an attack after gunmen ambushed his convoy along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area. Fortunately, Ngige was not in the convoy at the time of the assault.
According to his former media aide, Sir Fred Chukwuelobe, the assailants shot a police officer assigned to the convoy, seizing both his firearm and uniform.
A white Mercedes-Benz SUV, reportedly stolen by the attackers, was later recovered by the police following a high-speed pursuit and exchange of gunfire.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the suspects. He added that one police officer sustained minor gunshot wounds but is in stable condition and receiving medical treatment. Authorities have secured the recovered vehicle for further investigation.
