Her Excellency Myrian Montrat, Canada’s High Commissioner to Ghana, has advised Ghanaians planning to attend the 2026 World Cup to apply for their Canadian visas as early as possible.
In an interview with *Diplomacy Unscripted*, High Commissioner Montrat emphasized the importance of applying directly to the Canadian authorities rather than relying on third-party services. She warned that many third-party organizations may falsely promise faster visa processing or guaranteed approvals, which is not the case. “The best way is to go directly to the source to avoid scammers,” she cautioned.
She explained that Canada, along with the US and Mexico, is coordinating efforts to ensure a seamless experience for World Cup attendees. However, she stressed that high demand for visas is expected, so early application is critical to avoid delays.
Montrat also urged visa recipients to respect Canada's immigration rules, ensuring they follow through on their stated intentions and return to their home countries as required.
The High Commissioner’s advice comes as embassies prepare for a surge in visa applications ahead of the World Cup.
