Renowned Islamic scholar and influential leader of the Tijjaniyyah movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has passed away today, Thursday, November 27, 2025. He was 98 years old.

Born on June 29, 1927, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi dedicated his entire life to Islamic learning and spiritual leadership. He memorized the Qur’an in his youth under his father, Alhaji Usman, who was a respected Tijani muqaddam.

Over the course of his life, he expanded his Islamic knowledge through mentorship from notable scholars including Shaykh Tijani Usman Zangon-Bare-bari, Shaykh Abubakar Atiku, and Shaykh Abdulqadir Zaria. He later received the Tijjaniyyah Tariqah, which cemented his role as a major figure in the Sufi order.

Until his passing, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi served as the Deputy Chairman of the Fatwa Committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), contributing significantly to religious guidance and jurisprudence within the Muslim community.

The respected scholar was also widely known across West Africa for his spiritual influence. In 2009, he was detained in Saudi Arabia during pilgrimage—a development linked to doctrinal disagreements among Nigerian Islamic groups at the time.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi fathered more than 80 children and was married to the daughter of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse, a prominent 20th-century Tijani leader. Their marriage was officiated by Sheikh Baba Laminu Niasse at the Ibrahim Niasse Mosque in Kaolack, Senegal.

His death marks the end of an era for the Tijjaniyyah community. Tributes are expected to pour in from religious leaders, disciples, and admirers across Nigeria and beyond.
