Ibrahim Adjei, a former Assistant Secretary in the Office of former President Akufo-Addo, has strongly endorsed the comments made by former Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea, regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) selection process for its presidential candidate.
Adjei called on the NPP to choose a candidate who embodies the temperament and qualities needed for both national and global leadership.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday, November 27, Adjei expressed strong agreement with Atta Akyea’s call to NPP delegates, emphasizing that his message resonates broadly within the political community.
He stressed that qualities such as maturity and strong leadership should be at the forefront of the party's decision-making as it prepares for the 2026 presidential primaries. Adjei argued that any objective observer, regardless of political affiliation, would support Atta Akyea’s plea.
“Anyone with political maturity would agree with Atta Akyea’s statement, no matter their political party,” Adjei said.
He further argued that a presidential candidate should not only be competent and visionary, but should also possess the temperament, humility, and international stature expected of a modern statesman.
Adjei praised former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for exemplifying these qualities. He described Dr. Bawumia as a leader capable of effecting meaningful change in Ghana, while also inspiring confidence both within the country and internationally.
“A candidate must have the ability to shape the nation and uplift its people, but also display the full range of qualities we seek in a leader,” Adjei said. “Even the NDC will admit that in terms of vision, conduct, and personality, Dr. Bawumia is a formidable politician.”
Adjei reaffirmed his confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s prospects, predicting a clear victory for him in the NPP’s upcoming election.
“On January 31, 2026, Dr. Bawumia will be declared the winner and the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 election,” he concluded.
