A wave of anxiety has swept through Ilorin and surrounding communities following the abduction of a traditional ruler in Kwara State. The monarch, identified as Kamilu Salami of the Bayagan community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, was kidnapped by armed bandits on Saturday morning, November 29, 2025.
According to local reports, the monarch was working on his farm when the assailants, described as heavily armed, invaded the area at approximately 9:30 a.m. Witnesses stated that the attackers operated with striking confidence, suggesting they were familiar with the terrain and had carefully planned their operation.
The monarch’s motorcycle was later found abandoned at the scene, highlighting the sudden and forceful nature of the abduction. Residents of Bayagan and nearby villages have been thrown into panic, with many farmers now afraid to return to their farmlands due to fear of further attacks.
As of the time of reporting, the kidnappers had not made contact with the monarch’s family or community leaders, heightening tension and uncertainty in the area.
Security operatives, including local vigilante groups and police units, are said to be combing the surrounding forests in search of the abducted ruler. However, official details about the operation remain limited.
This incident adds to the rising number of targeted attacks across Nigeria, intensifying concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities and the boldness of criminal groups operating in forested regions.
Residents are calling on authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent further deterioration of security in the region and to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted monarch.
