Two parents connected to the recent abduction of students from St Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri village, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, have reportedly died following the traumatic incident.
The Catholic Bishop of the Kontagora Diocese, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, confirmed the development on Tuesday in Minna through his media aide, Daniel Atori. Bishop Yohanna, who also serves as the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State and is the proprietor of the school, identified one of the deceased as Anthony Musa.
According to him, Musa suffered a fatal heart attack shortly after news of the abduction broke. He added that the Church is still attempting to establish contact with the family of the second victim, a female parent whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
“The man, Anthony Musa, died of a heart attack, but regarding the female parent, we do not have full details yet because we have been unable to reach her family,” he said.
Update on Kebbi Students’ Release
In a separate development, authorities have confirmed the release of the 24 schoolgirls who were abducted in Kebbi State. The students have been reunited with their families, although the circumstances surrounding their release remain unclear. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Community leaders in Kebbi expressed relief at the safe return of the students but urged the government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward finding lasting solutions to the recurring problem of school kidnappings in the region.
