The Katsina State Police Command has thwarted an attempted bandit attack along the Kandawa–Dankar road in Batsari Local Government Area, recovering two AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition, and a Boxer motorcycle.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday. He explained that the armed suspects had tried to block the Kandawa–Dankar road when security operatives received a distress report.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who had ordered intensified efforts to safeguard lives and property nationwide. Following a strategic review of its security operations, the Katsina Police Command, under Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu, heightened patrols and surveillance in the area.
The statement added that officers from the Batsari Division swiftly mobilised after receiving the report at about 10:00 a.m. on November 29, 2025. On arrival, the security personnel engaged the suspects in a brief gun battle, forcing them to flee.
A subsequent search of the scene led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of live ammunition, and a Boxer motorcycle. The police say investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, with updates to be provided as the case progresses.
Commending the responding officers, the Commissioner of Police praised their prompt action and bravery. He also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts against criminal elements.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across Katsina State.
Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that 37 villagers abducted from Bakori Local Government Area were released by bandits following weeks of negotiations that resulted in a peace agreement, according to a lawmaker.
