An American-Nigerian soldier has advised African immigrants living legally in the United States—particularly Nigerians—to consider joining the U.S. military, describing it as one of the most rewarding paths to long-term stability and success.
Speaking in a viral video, the soldier encouraged physically fit immigrants between the ages of 17 and 42 to explore military service, stressing that its benefits far exceed those of most civilian jobs. According to him, the military offers a rare combination of financial security, career flexibility, education, healthcare, and long-term retirement benefits.
Why Nigerian Immigrants Should Consider the U.S. Military
Addressing immigrants who are legally resident but stuck in low-paying or unstable jobs, he said:
“If you’re an immigrant from Africa—especially Nigeria—and you have your papers but you’re still doing shift or daily jobs, you’re wasting your time. Join the military. It gives you citizenship, free medical care, free education, gratuity, and pension. Some people retire at 38 or 45 and don’t have to work again for the rest of their lives.”
He emphasized that military service provides structured growth and benefits that most civilian employment cannot match.
Unmatched Pay and Career Flexibility
The soldier highlighted the wide range of allowances and opportunities available to service members, including housing, feeding, clothing, and other benefits in addition to base salary.
“You earn your basic pay, feeding allowance, clothing allowance, housing allowance—everything. It’s a job where you can be a cook today and become a doctor tomorrow within the same system. No other job offers that kind of life except the military.”
Job Security and Competitive Advantage
He also pointed out the job security that comes with military service, even during economic uncertainty.
“Whether there’s a government shutdown or not, our pay still comes in. After service, when you apply for other jobs, employers ask if you’re a veteran because companies receive tax incentives for hiring people who have worn this uniform.”
According to him, military service gives immigrants a strong competitive edge in the job market and greater respect in professional spaces.
A Strategic Path to Success
Concluding his message, the soldier urged African immigrants to see military service as a strategic investment in their future.
“If you’re doing daily jobs, the day you fall sick and can’t show up, you won’t be paid. The U.S. military gives you what I call a competitive advantage. When you speak as a veteran, people listen—whether you were born here or not.”
The video has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many immigrants weighing the opportunities and challenges of joining the U.S. military as a pathway to long-term success.
